GMOs: Why Reason Doesn’t Matter

Featuring: Michael Specter

Michael Specter is a staff writer for The New Yorker magazine and author of “Denialism: How Irrational Thinking Hinders Scientific Progress.”

At the CFI Reason for Change conference on June 12, 2015, Specter talks about one of the most recent science-denial fads: GMOs. Specter explains how genetically modified organisms have played an important role in scientific progress and, most importantly, our ability to continue to feed the world. Specter explains why people can be so quick to jump to fear-driven conclusions, and why we need to learn to honestly evaluate and mitigate risk so that we don't hold ourselves back from scientific progress.
